The Physician Philosopher Podcast: Philosophy and Finance

By Jimmy Turner, MD
The Physician Philosopher

Over the last six months, I’ve received several emails and been told in person that I should podcast more often.  Some have even suggested I start the Physician Philosopher Podcast (would I call it Triple P?) . This is because over the last year I have been a guest on various podcasts, which are listed below.

While I love writing a good ol’ fashioned blog post, I’ve also fallen in love with podcasting.  I love the medium, and I love how the spoken word provides emotions to the words you would otherwise be reading on this blog.  Yet, I don’t have time to start my own right now.  (Though, I might be convinced to do so if people think it would be worth their while.)

The Physician Philosopher Podcast (and Vlog?)

So, I introduce to you the Philosophy and Finance Series, which will be conducted with a friend and sponsor on this website, Justin Harvey of QuantiFI Financial Planning.  It will play in both video and podcast format once each month.

You can find the video for series in each of the posts on my site.  The podcast can be found on Justin’s Anesthesia Success podcast. While the name of the podcast suggests that it is only for those of us who put people to sleep, I can assure you that the subject matter will vary quite a bit when I am on the show.

We will discuss topics relevant to what you find on this site: personal finance, physician burnout, investing, paying down student loans,  and financial independence. And you can expect them to come out once each month.  Each episode will be featured as a post on the blog.

Now, you’ll be able to listen to all of my rants instead of only reading them!  You can listen to it in your car. At the gym.  Or wherever else you listen to podcasts.

This Week’s Episode

In this week’s episode, Justin and I cover a wide range of topics.  We discuss Imposter Syndrome. We cover fee-models for financial planners, including what the gold standard model looks like.  Other topics include what a good advisor looks like, and we even chat about updates on the blog.

So, if you were hoping for a Physician Philosopher podcast, this where you can find it.

Physician Philosopher Podcasting Going Forward

On the Fridays that podcasts feature me, I’ll be linking them here on the site as the Friday post. After that, it is up to you to leave a comment and tell me what you think.

Should I drop the mic, and walk away from podcasting?  Or is the Physician Philosopher Podcast worth pursuing?

Let me know what topics you’d like to hear me discuss!  Leave a comment below.

I know that it would be a lot of work, but I think it would be totally awesome if you had a podcast. Your blog posts are incredibly insightful and I always look forward to reading all of your new blogs. Thank you for taking the time to write the articles.
