In medicine, we have to handover care to the medical providers coming behind us. Just like we run the list to “check out” on the patients we are taking care of, we will run a list of articles I think are worth your time to read.
So, this will be the first Monthly Checkout where I hand select articles that I really think are worth checking out to you. This series will feature the third Friday of each month.
Here it goes.
The first ever, TPP Monthly Checkout.
How it works
Each link attached to the author below is to their twitter site so that you can follow them to see when they publish more great content. The links to the stories will send you to the article itself so you can see why it is worth checking out.
Proving Frugality in Residency is Possible
Dr. McFrugal wrote an excellent post on being frugal in residency. The craziest part is that he did it in an extremely high cost of living city: Los Angeles.
I think this is a great post to read for anyone who is entering residency or currently in the throws of it. For those that have taken my Student Loan Debt Destroyer Course (sign up for my weekly newsletter for access), you may recognize the article. It’s so good that I send it to everyone.
Frugality After Residency Pays Off, Too
In a great article by the White Coat Investor, the value of patience and the need to live like a resident for a year or two is discussed. It really does pay great dividends in your happiness and long term financial success.
If you want to see the math behind why it’s so important to live like a resident, I’ve written on that in this post.
Thought Provoking Posts No Matter Your Stage in Life
Doc G at Diversefi blew my mind about a month back with a post on dying poor in America. Doc G works as a primary care physician who sees patients in nursing homes. This unique perspective allowed him to write an incredibly thought provoking article on the impoverished elderly in our country. It’s worth the read, I promise.
Millionaire Doc takes us on a journey involving ladders. Except he isn’t talking about your every day ladders, he takes us on a journey to discover ladders that lead to wealth. Join in as he expands on this idea.
Financial Independence and Early Retirement (FIRE)
Physician on Fire helps us gain a little bit of perspective. Most people when they think of FIRE think about finding a life that makes them happy at an affordable cost. Living frugally allows us to retire sooner. That’s not for everyone, though. Some people want to fatFIRE on much more money in retirement. How much? I’ll let POF tell you as he defines fatFIRE.
Four Pillar Freedom takes us on a journey to discover how a dollar spent is always worth nothing while a dollar put at risk in the market is often worth more. While I disagree with the philosophy when spending money on something that will bring you joy, I certainly think its a worthwhile perspective on most things (which don’t bring us joy). A Dollar that experiences an investment loss is still worth more than a dollar spent.
As always, I welcome feedback!
As this is a new feature, let me know if you liked it. Read the articles and tell me what you think. You certainly won’t make it through the list without finding something that didn’t you made you think.
